Bitcoin rises as it shows some resilience to the Middle East conflict, but gains are modest. While cryptocurrencies are slightly higher, the "rush has been to buy the dollar as a safe haven, rather than move funds back into bitcoin and its peers," IG analyst Chris Beauchamp says in a note. The most positive factor is that cryptocurrencies have avoided crashing through February lows but a sustained appreciation is yet to develop, he says. Cryptocurrencies and equities both face an extended period of volatility as the energy price shock stemming from the conflict is unlikely to dissipate quickly, he says. Bitcoin rises 1.3% to $68,094, having reached a 16-month low of $60,008 on Feb. 6, LSEG data show. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
